One scene. One spark.
That’s all it took.
I shouldn’t be writing this post.
I shouldn’t have four drafts of a full-length epic fantasy written with a fifth on the way.
I shouldn’t have an Instagram, X, or Facebook accounts to share my journey as a debuting author.
I shouldn’t have built a website in two days to build a home for a novel I wrote.
Yet, here I am…
What the Hel Happened!?
… having an absolute blast!
(And yes, the “Hel” is a subtle nod to Hel—the realm of the dead. Just having some fun!)
The little idea that started all this grew beyond anything I could hope to control, and it has dragged me along for the ride. And to imagine, had I not been laid off that week from work, I may not have had the extra time to even consider entertaining the idea.
Funny how fate works like that sometimes…
This story has consumed me. I don’t think I’ll be able to stop until I achieve a goal I abandoned long ago—seeing The Valkyries published and on a shelf at my local bookstore.
It’s going to be an uphill battle, but reaching the peak will make the journey worth it.
But, anyway…

As of this writing, I’m still deep into revising draft #5 to prepare it for querying agents, so I may only share updates here once or twice each month.
But when I do, I plan to make this my main avenue:
- To share updates regarding The Valkyries as we press forward on the path toward publication
- To share what I’ve learned—the wins, the mistakes, and insights that might help you on your own creative path
- To pull the curtain back, revealing behind-the-scenes looks at my adventure
